I completed Jnr Manu a young Tongan friends portrait today, he told me he was (fatter) than I portrayed him so I had a bit of work to do, luckily enough he’s happy now. Sometimes wish I could draw a graph to get the proportions instead of calculating by sight but I’m hopeless at drafting with a ruler.
When I saw one of the first portraits , ( posted here 2013), that I’d painted in over 20 yrs, worn out and fading I decided to give my young friend, another. I’ve enjoyed painting it very much and had the same opportunity, as I have begun with the chakma people , to use my gift for the benefit of others Makes me feel good about it, at this stage of my life. Only have the shirt to finish and some shading on the forehead.
This is another of Dawn's old painting of her mum when she was 16. It was one of Dawn's strongest portrait that was a very good likeness of her and was one of the many portraits that Dawn was doing at the time. Dawn was also concentrating on landscapes at the time. She did quite a few at Amphitheatre, Victoria.
