Coming together nicely.

At last, I have achieved an aim after struggling for weeks, even a  number of year’s,  on  my lost and forgotten vision when I first saw abstract art in my uni days 1993. It was awaken by an artist I saw on twitter from the UK who’s  name escapes me now and a friend pointed me in the way of Ellen Rolli an American artist, who’s work has also been helpful to jog my memory. So I’m really excited about this painting,  it’s been a long time.

"Sealed with a Kiss" left Rainbow and gone to Sydney

“Sealed with a kiss” – Dawn’s new abstract, an original and never to be repeated, was painted this year, has found a new home in Sydney.  The new owner found it for sale on a website and loved it more when it was delivered. Dawn was worried about the colours on the website because it wasn’t a true representation. The colours were more vibrant and deeper in the real world.

Sealed with a kiss

Sold to a lady interstate. One of Dawn’s latest paintings, “Sealed with a kiss”, done this month amidst her self-portraits. She still loves her abstract art, and start by laying down marks and then see where they lead her to. She laid the marks down with the colours she fancies at the moment and then proceed from there. So you’ll never know what comes out of it. It’s a complete surprise!

She learnt this technique while she was doing an undergraduate at the University of Ballarat. That’s when she embarked on abstract painting which she never done or know of.

On reflection, Doug Wright, one of lecturer remarked years later, he would have liked to see what her portraiture work would have lead to if she had not embarked on abstract. However, Dawn still loves her abstract paintings, it gets her creative juices flowing while portraits are rather more of a look and put art. She loves all her paintings.

Otherwise, if a piece does not turn out to her liking she paints over them, using them as bases for the next work. I rather she kept them because in some cases, other people liked them.

The "Princess" visits Rainbow Gallery

We were delighted to have an amazing time with the “princess Sam-Tin”, Hong Kong filmstar and celebrity, Bernice Liu’s visit to Rainbow Gallery, and she had my pumpkin soup and char kueh teow. She also tasted the Rainbow dessert wine.

The start of this new year looks bright for the Gallery. We are here nearly for a year now.
