Not quite finished with this abstract composition, need to make a few minor adjustments to some colors and not satisfied with the center but feel it has potential
Visited an old class mates Art exhibition at the Maryborough Goldfields Gallery yesterday. Enjoyed his work and talk about his residency at Bruny Island Tasmania in 2013 about the early colonial history of Tasmania. “Sealed with a kiss” – Dawn’s new abstract, an original and never to be repeated, was painted this year, has found a new home in Sydney. The new owner found it for sale on a website and loved it more when it was delivered. Dawn was worried about the colours on the website because it wasn’t a true representation. The colours were more vibrant and deeper in the real world.
Sold to a lady interstate. One of Dawn’s latest paintings, “Sealed with a kiss”, done this month amidst her self-portraits. She still loves her abstract art, and start by laying down marks and then see where they lead her to. She laid the marks down with the colours she fancies at the moment and then proceed from there. So you’ll never know what comes out of it. It’s a complete surprise!
She learnt this technique while she was doing an undergraduate at the University of Ballarat. That’s when she embarked on abstract painting which she never done or know of.
On reflection, Doug Wright, one of lecturer remarked years later, he would have liked to see what her portraiture work would have lead to if she had not embarked on abstract. However, Dawn still loves her abstract paintings, it gets her creative juices flowing while portraits are rather more of a look and put art. She loves all her paintings.
